ABSTRACT

The menisci of 15 human knee joints of both sexes were used in this study, of which 5 were full-term and other 10 ranged in age from 15-65 years. In adults and old-ages, the menisci were formed mainly of collagen bundles and chondroid tissue. The collagen fibers were arranged circumferentially, with occasional fibers were radially and vertically oriented. The intercellular cartilage matrix was abundant. Blood vessels were found only in the peripheral one-third. The major changes from full-term to adult and old-ages menisci were a progressive decrease in vascularity decrease in cellularity and increase in chondroid tissue. A discussion of the results was performed

ABSTRACT

Forty adult albino rats weighting 200-300 gm. were used. They were divided into 4 groups, each contains 10 animals. Animals of group I used as control group II received a daily oral dose of ethinyl estradiol for 3 weeks, group III exposed to bilateral ovariectomy and group IV were exposed to bilateral ovariectomy and received the same daily oral dose of the drug. At the end of the 3rd week the animals were sacrificed and the uteri were taken and processed for light microscopic study. Measurement for the endometrium and their lining epithelial cells were taken and analyzed. In non-ovariectomized treated rats, the endometrium showed many folds with tall columnar epithelial lining. The endometrial glands became numerous and enlarged. The histological changes in endometrium of normal treated rats were more extensive than that of the ovariectomized treated ones. Discussion of these results was done

ABSTRACT

10 full-term larvae and adult urodeles [Ambystoma, axolotl] were used in this study. Serial Epon sections were prepared and stained with toluidine blue. The lateral line receptors in the larval and adult animals consisted of 2 types of organs, the ordinary neuromasts and the ampullary organs. The organs were arranged in different lines in the head and along the whole side of the body. The ampullary organs were restricted only to the head. The 2 types of organs were histologically different in their constituent cells, especially th sensory cells. In the neuromast, the sensory cell showed a single hair, while in the ampullary organ it showed a single striated protrusion. The significances of the distribution, morphology and histological structure of these sense organs were discussed

ABSTRACT

Fifty-six human hip bones of 14 males and 14 females were used in this study. Measurements of 15 variables were taken for each hip bone. Among thesevariables, statistically high significant differences related to sex weredetected for the mean values of the total pelvic height and pelvic width. Inanterior border measurements, statistically significant differences weredetected between mean values for 4 variables [distance from the anteriorinferior iliac spine to the iliopubic eminence and to the pubic tubercle, aswell as the depth of the anterior border and the index of the anterior borderlength to the total pelvic height]. These variables could be used for sexdetermination from the human hip bone or its fragments
